Transitus Maths Tips

Robert Frame, an English tutor in Glasgow, offers the following advice for students doing Standard Grade and Higher English.

Transitus Maths

45 minute paper

No calculator

Addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of whole numbers.
Understanding of place value from 0.1 to 1000000.
The average of a set of data.

Addition and subtraction of decimals, multiplication of a decimal by a
2-digit whole number and division of a decimal by a single digit whole
number. Rounding to the nearest given unit, up to 10000.

Simple fractions of familiar quantities (e.g. 2/5 of £20).

Use of standard units in money, time (including 24 hour clock), length and weight.

The concept of area with respect to rectangle.
The concept of volume of a liquid in ml.

Recognition of shapes such as triangle, rectangle etc. by name. Knowledge
of their simple properties such as symmetry, length of sides, acute and
obtuse angles etc.

The perimeter and area of a rectangle.
Symmetry in everyday objects.
Nets of 3-D shapes.

Use of non-negative coordinates.

Interpretation of simple statistical graphs.

Use of any of the above in familiar problem solving contexts.
