There are many websites, agencies and publications which help connect students with tutors but how many can say that they are helpful, inexpensive, honest, and lawful?

Helpful

This site's primary purpose is to provide helpful information and advice to both students and tutors. The aim is to produce and maintain a high quality resource which is of genuine use to it's target audience.

Honest

With A+ Tutors you can easily find out who owns and runs the website (Kelly McLellan) and which country they are in (Scotland - address above). Information and advice on tutoring for both students and tutors is freely available. The site is open about it's pros and cons, the fact that it is not an agency, is UK based and fully complies with UK law.

Inexpensive

Tutoring agencies and most forms of advertising are very expensive for tutors who then pass these costs onto their students. Tutoring agencies take about £5 an hour from a tutor whilst advertising in newspapers starts from £10 per week. In contrast, an advert on A+ Tutors is £25 in in the first year and only £20 per year there after.

Lawful

This site is not an agency.

Our History

A⁺ Tutors has been online since January 2000. It was started as a hobby site and initially advertised the services of Kelly McLellan (the creator and owner of the site) and his friends as well as offering information relevant to their students. Other tutors quickly started to find the site and were added for free. A few even provided advice pages of their own for use on the site.

In the first two years the site grew rapidly and beyond expectations. To reduce the resultant work load charging was introduced in 2002. This reduce the numbers of tutors applying to a manageable level so that Kelly could contend with poor health and still maintain the quality of the site. In 2005 the advertising rates were increased to the current levels, again for the same reasons, shortly followed by a freeze on new tutors for two years.

Because of this focus, A+ Tutors is, without a doubt, the UK market leader for tutor-student websites and has been for most, if not all, of it's existence. It is so successful with the search engines that over 1700 unique search terms are used to find it each month. Where once our rates were the lowest of our competition they are now used as the guide post.

Kelly's goals for the site are: to continue to re-invest the site's income to ensure continued market dominance and; to use his time to maintain it's high level of quality and family feel.
